Bygone Days – The Kingsville Bingo Palace

This Kingsville Bingo Palace, which stood at 40 Main Street West, closed its doors in 2003 after owner Robert Dowd could not negotiate a new lease agreement.  Dowd’s business was also facing an additional obstacle — new legislation that would restrict smoking in public and work places.

The Kingsville Bingo Palace helped to provide funding to 24 different charities and organizations.

With the closure, 30 staff were out of a job but Dowd was worked to employ some at Bingo Palace locations in Amherstburg and Chatham.

The Kingsville Bingo Palace location was previously the home of Gordon’s grocery store and is now occupied by the Essex County Library — Kingsville Branch.
