Fish for Free in Ontario on Mother’s Day Weekend May 13-14, 2023

Families find many ways to celebrate Mom on Mother’s Day Weekend. If fishing is what you fancy, here’s some good news. On May 13-14, 2023 Ontario families and friends can enjoy fishing anywhere in the province without having to purchase a licence or carry an Outdoors Card.

There are a few requirements though. Canadian residents fishing for free on Mother’s Day Weekend must carry identification from the provincial or federal government with name and date of birth.

All conservation licence catch limits, size limits, sanctuaries and all other fishing regulations and rules must also be observed.

There are four free fishing weekends in Ontario throughout the year. Here are this year’s dates:

  • February 18-20, 2023 (12:01 a.m. Saturday to 11:59 p.m. Monday)
  • May 13 & 14, 2023 (12:01 a.m. Saturday to 11:59 p.m. Sunday)
  • June 17 & 18, 2023 (12:01 a.m. Saturday to 11:59 p.m. Sunday)
  • July 1-9, 2023 (12:01 a.m. Saturday to 11:59 p.m. Sunday)

Enjoy the free weekends! And remember that at any other time, Canadian residents who are 18 and older, but under the age of 65, must have an Outdoors Card and a fishing licence.

* All veterans and active Canadian Armed Forces members who live in Ontario are free to fish recreationally in the province, at any time wherever fishing is allowed.
