Taste of the County: Sip & Savour Event

Sip & Savour Event

On Saturday, April 15th, 2023 Vivace Estate Winery & Rosa Basile-Marrello presented an unique cooking class experience in the beautiful newly renovated kitchen at the winery.

The guests were allowed to discover the traditional preparations of appetizers under my guidance. They prepared some of my favourite classic appetizers (recipes below) under my supervision and then enjoyed them in combination with a flight of Vivace wines.

The two-hour SIP & SAVOUR event included: a hands-on experience in the kitchen, a mini-workshop on preparing appetizers for your guests at home, a self-tour of the winery, and a raffle to win a local $25 gift basket, generously donated by Elisa Quaggiotto from The Farm House Market, located in Amherstburg, Ontario.

The intention of this event was to present the local produce and business in our area. All appetizers were created using only local and Ontario grown products, giving my guests a true taste of the county.

My other intention was to demonstrate that when serving wine we always seem to want to put together a charcuterie board of cheeses and meats and although that’s fine, the purpose of this event was to introduce a simple yet elegant look to our appetizers using the finest local products available to us in our region.

Three simple but elegant appetizers were paired delectably with the vibrant and tasty Vivace wines.

Appetizer 1
Caprese Cups

Ingredients I used:
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Tomatoes
Bococini
Basil

Appetizer 2
Classic Italian Bruschetta

Ingredients I used:
Bruschetta bread
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Heirloom Colourful Tomatoes ( I find these are the best for bruschetta as they don’t extract a lot of water.)
Salt
Garlic, minced
Basil

Appetizer 3

Pear Gorgonzola Prosciutto THE PGP

Ingredients I used:
Bartlett Pear, sliced
Gorgonzola cheese
Prosciutto

An event such as this does not happen without the generosity of the local businesses. A special THANK YOU to all the local businesses who were part of the event. They provided me with the most delicious, high quality ingredients leaving all who purchased a ticket to this event pleased and content to have discovered a new gem in our area.

Thank you to Treana from BENTwoodgoods for her beautiful boards to display and serve my appetizers.  You are very talented and you create beautiful pieces.

The following local businesses provided me with all the ingredients I needed to create the appetizers for the guests:

An enormous thank you to The Farm House Market for not only supplying the event with fresh ingredients, two $25 gift baskets were donated for our raffle.

Thank you DelFrescoPure greenhouses for the most delicious Heirloom Tomatoes to create the classic bruschetta.

I encourage you to support the locals in your area and I hope you get the opportunity to

TASTE THE COUNTY!

What a lovely experience we enjoyed at Vivace Winery. It has a rustic and fresh new vibe. Our hostess Rosa was lovely and very knowledgeable about food, olive oils and wines. We made and tasted three simple yet elegant and creative appetizers. I loved that all of the ingredients were fresh and local. After, we enjoyed our appetizers in the tasting room along with a flight of wines. We were impressed with the quality and variety of selections. What a great way to spend a couple of hours with friends.
