Jane’s Walks Happening in Kingsville on April 30

Jane’s Walks will be taking place in Kingsville this weekend. Local residents who have an interest and knowledge about the area will be giving free hour-long neighbourhood tours. There will be three Walks on Sunday hosted by Tamara Stomp, Grant Munroe and Veronica Brown.

What is a Jane’s Walk?

Jane’s Walk was named after Jane Jacobs (1916 – 2006)) who  was a US-Canadian journalist, activist, author and theorist. Beginning in the 1960s she had a significant impact on economics, sociology, urban studies. She was an organizer of efforts to limit urban renewal in neighborhoods.

Jane’s Walk originated in 2007. Since then its popularity has spread across North America and other parts of the world. By 2014 more than 40,000 people in 134 cities in six continents were going on Jane’s Walks.

Kingsville Public Library is part of Kingsville’s Main Street Walk

Port of Appeal – Kingsville Harbour — 1 p.m.  to 2 p.m.

Tamara Stomp will be the host. The walk will start at the Old Lighthouse on Park Street and will end at the Grovedale Arts and Culture Centre parking lot at 103 Park Street.

The theme is History & Culture, and Environment. The affiliated organization is Community Member Walk.

Take note that one hill may pose a challenging walk.

How Mill Creek Shaped Kingsville — 2:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.

Grant Munroe will be the host. The walk will start on Prince Albert Street North and will end at Walnut Street, at the corner of the Epiphany Cemetery.
Parking will be available on the street or in Epiphany Church parking lots.

The theme is Environment, History & Culture. The affiliated organization is Essex County Field Naturalists’ Club

Take note that about half of the walk will be on a maintained dirt trail. Uneven path may prove challenging.

Kingsville’s Main Street — 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Veronica Brown will be the host. The walk will start and end at the Kingsville Public Library at 40 Main Street West.

The theme is History & Culture. The affiliated organization is Community Member Walk

It’s an easy walk on sidewalks or paved pathways.
