2022 Pelee Island Winery Half Marathon Puts Annual Event Back On Course

After a two-year wait, the Pelee Island Winery Half Marathon returned last Saturday, June 4 with over 300 participants vying for a shot at the top honours. With light winds, cooler temperatures and a low dew point, the weather could not have been better for the event.

As one of the most exclusive destination races in the world, when tickets go on sale a year in advance of the race date, Pelee’s Half Marathon typically sells out in a day.

With a limit of 440 runners, there is high demand to participate in this half marathon. The race offers runners a special alchemy of a remote island locale with beautiful backdrops, professional course management, great event shirts and winners’ medals.

Runners were also treated to an incredibly fun afterparty with a delicious 10-course luncheon prepared by Vernon’s Tap & Grill and an endless supply of Pelee Island wine.

This year’s participants were among the 440 originally registered for the 2020 run and, with travel still complicated by vaccination requirements and pre-arrival documentation for some, they jumped through hoops to get back to the Island.

Congratulations go out to the 2022 winners:

Men

1. Jeff Aspinall of  Ferndale, Michigan

2. Ted Hanley of Ottawa, Ontario

3. Christopher Greig of Windsor, Ontario

Women

1. Brooke Clarkin of Caledon East, Ontario

2. Kelli Grossi of Leamington, Ontario

3. Heather Snow of Ajax, Ontario
