Noxious Weeds Must Be Destroyed Before May 30

The Town of Kingsville has issued a reminder to all landowners that noxious weeds growing on their lands must be destroyed before May 30, 2022, and ongoing for the rest of the season. This is in accordance with Provincial legislation, the Weed Control Act, R. S. O., 1990

Noxious weeds have a negative impact on those humans with respiratory issues and on farm fields. The wind can blow weed seeds across many kilometres and they will kill what’s planted. Ragweed can create breathing issues. Oak, sumac and poison ivy cause skin reactions.

If noxious weeds on a landowner’s property are not destroyed, the municipality may be required to access the owner’s land to remove the weeds. The cost would be charged against the owner’s land as per the Weed Control Act, R. S. O., 1990, Chapter W.5, Sections 1, 13, 16 and 23.

You can find a list of noxious weeds on the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) website.
