On Saturday March 23, between the hours of 12 and 5 p.m. the people of Kingsville donated 2,000 pantry items to the Kingsville Community Food Bank’s shelves.
The Rotary Club of Kingsville Southshore, Zehrs, and the Food Bank’s own volunteers worked together to make this event happen. And of course it was all made possible by the generosity of those who donated.
The day started with a food drive from 10 a.m. to noon, organized by the Rotary Club.
Rotary volunteers collected over 330 pantry items and more than $200 in cash, as well as $125 in grocery gift cards.
There were prizes for the Golden Egg winners which were donated by the Rotary Club and OG Pizza.
Rotary wishes to extend its thanks to all of the volunteers and donors. The Food Bank greatly appreciates all of Rotary’s hard work on their behalf.
Inside at Zehrs between noon and 5 p.m. volunteers from the Food Bank were waiting with shopping carts ready for donations. Twenty carts full plus two car loads of goods held 1629 pantry items. Cash donations totalled $278.
The food drive was organized by Zehrs in collaboration with the Food Bank.
After 5 p.m. volunteers from Zehrs were pushing the cars down Main Street to the Food Bank.
From there, it was sorted and stored, made ready to go to the families who need it right here in our community.
Zehrs thanks all of the volunteers and those who donated, who made this day possible.
The Food Bank wishes to thank all those that helped at Zehrs, and all of the volunteers that sorted and put away the Zehrs donations after the carts were delivered.
If you’d like to make a contribution to the Food Bank, the items most needed right now are:
- Cereal
- Jam
- Crackers
- Rice
The Kingsville Community Food Bank expressed their gratitude and appreciation to everyone who participated over the weekend.
The Food Bank said this on their Facebook page:
“A huge heartfelt thank you again to each and every one of you that donated or helped at these events. Your kindness and generosity does not go unnoticed. Without all of you and your generosity we wouldn’t be able to provide this much needed service. Our hearts are full and are shelves are STOCKED!”
