Detroit Metropolitan Airport Included On FAA’s Flight Reduction List

As a result of the US Government shutdown, U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Administrator Bryan Bedford has outlined the proactive actions the FAA will take to maintain the highest standards of safety in the national airspace system.

This includes achieving a temporary 10 percent reduction in flights at 40 high traffic airports across the country. A 4 percent reduction in operations will take effect Friday, November 7, ramping up to 6 percent by November 11, 8 percent by November 13, and 10 percent by November 14.

Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) is included on the FAA’s flight reduction list.

Some flights have been canceled as a result. DTW is encouraging travellers to check their flight status with their airline before heading to the airport.

Exercising patience is appreciated as the Airport Authority, airlines and federal partners adapt to changing conditions.

Tips for Travellers:

  • Download your airline’s app and turn on notifications.
  • Check your flight status with your airline before heading to DTW.
  • Make sure your airline has your current contact information. Airlines will send updates using the information you submitted when purchasing your ticket.
  • Pack your patience
