At the recent Erie Shores HealthCare (ESHC) Board of Directors meeting, several important initiatives and updates were discussed, showcasing ongoing developments and recognition within our hospital community.
Excellence in Service Awards
The Board acknowledged the remarkable contributions of ESHC staff during the annual Employee Excellence in Service Awards.
Winners included Teresa Coppola (Employee of the Year), Dr. Christopher Anderson (Physician of the Year), Kristin Spicer (Nurse of the Year), Patti Fields (Leader of the Year), Shelly Dobson (Volunteer of the Year), and the Diagnostic Imaging Booking Office, recognized as Program of the Year.
Employee Years of Service Recognition
Significant milestones were celebrated, notably honoring Linda Macchio for 45 years and Eva Lewis for an extraordinary 55 years of dedicated service.
Research and Publications
Board members were informed of recent successes in research and innovation.
Erie Shores HealthCare’s collaboration with SiMLQ has developed a predictive analytics tool to enhance decision-making and resource management in the Emergency Department.
Additionally, the hospital’s groundbreaking research on local cancer care and dedicated nursing education days were recently published internationally in the Fortune Journals of Health Sciences.
Physician Relocation Update
The board received an update regarding the relocation of internal medicine physicians due to hospital growth and space constraints.
Practices of Dr. Alami, Dr. Chehab, and Dr. Kaloti have moved to 245 Talbot Street West, Leamington, and Dr. Providence has relocated to Kingsville, Ontario.
This strategic decision ensures optimal use of hospital resources and facilities.
Windsor-Essex Measles Response
The board was briefed on the ongoing measles outbreak in Windsor-Essex, with 67 confirmed cases since February, primarily affecting unvaccinated children in Leamington and Kingsville.
While cases are decreasing, the board reaffirmed Erie Shores HealthCare’s commitment to preparedness, highlighting the proactive establishment of an external EMS measles unit at the Emergency Room to manage exposure risks effectively.
Currently, most visitor restrictions related to measles have been lifted but could be reinstated if cases volumes increase.
