Traffic Stop Leads To Charges

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Leamington Detachment has charged an individual following a traffic stop.

On February 2, 2024, at approximately 9:10 p.m., a member of the Leamington Detachment was conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 3 near Highway 77, Municipality of Leamington.

A vehicle was observed travelling at more than 65 km/h over the posted 80 km/h limit. The officer conducted a traffic stop to speak to the driver.

While speaking to the driver, the driver exited the vehicle and refused to comply with officer’s demands. The driver then attempted to flee the scene on foot but was arrested a short distance later.

As a result, a 51-year-old Windsor male was charged with:

  • Obstruct Peace Officer S.129(a) CC
  • Resist Peace Officer S.129(a) CC
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance- Cocaine S.4(1) CDSA
  • Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available S.12(1) CCA
  • Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform stunt – Excessive speed. S.172(1) HTA
  • Drive with headlamp modified. S.62(7) HTA
  • No windshield wiper S.66(1)(a) HTA

A 30-day Driver’s Licence Suspension and a 14-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor on March 19, 2024, to face the criminal charges.
