Due to an increase in incidents of by-law infractions, the Municipality of Leamington is issuing a public reminder to all residents regarding the importance of responsible pet ownership, particularly concerning the handling of dogs in public areas.
For the safety and well-being of our community, all dog owners are legally required to always keep their dogs on a leash when off their property, with the exception of the dog park located at435 Bevel Line Road, Leamington, which is specifically designed for off-leash use. This is not only a matter of courtesy to others but also a legal requirement to ensure public safety and the well-being of your pets.
Consequences of Non-Compliance:
- Charges: Dog owners could be charged under the Provincial Offences Act if their dog is found running at large.
- Impoundment: Dogs caught running at large may be impounded.
- Financial Responsibility: If a dog is impounded, the owner will be responsible for paying all applicable pound charges, along with any other damages, fines, and expenses incurred.
- Trespass Notice: Owners disregarding the leash requirement may receive a Trespass Notice, prohibiting them from continuing to use municipal property.
