Bygone Days — The Changing Face of Kingsville

This image, which originally appeared in the Kingsville Reporter in 1990, showed four local businesses which had undergone more than the regular spring cleaning.

Top left shows Queen’s Auto Supply when it was located on Main Street West. Owners Wayne and Mary-Jo LeClair had just carried out a renovation of the store.

Top right shows Mary Kathryn Ladies’ Shop which was also located on Main Street West. The store which was owned by Marg Litt and Kay Hutchinson had also undergone a renovation after a fire damaged the building.

One of the original grocery stores in town, LOEB IGA, shown in the bottom left image, was located on Main Street East and was owned by Gunther Funkenhauser.  At the time of this image, the store had been completely renovated to keep up with the progressive changes happening in town at that time.

Bottom right, on Division Street North, Mary Jane and Sam Mouawad were busy working on their plans for Mary Jane’s, a shopping mall that was set to have seven stores and an elevator to more stores on the upper level.  At the time of the photo, the centre wall had been removed to make a large hallway connecting the stores.

  1. I moved here from Bradford. Retired, walk everywhere. Busy county road 20. I know I’m not welcome here and will move when market picks up. Have to sell it.

It would really be amazing if instead of building more houses, there would be more huge parks. This town isn’t small town anymore 😕. There are just to many city folk that want it well, city. I barely know anyone when I’m out to the shops. Sad.

  3. It’s too bad the people running this town are trying to turn it into a city instead of a small town
And constantly raising property taxes to pay for all their crap
