Bygone Days — Main Street West In the Late 1800s

This section of Main Street West was known as the Grenville Block in the 1890s. It was one of the first store and office buildings in Kingsville.

From left to right is the Weir Co. which began as the Weir Tailoring Company in 1891. Next is Malott Bros. Meat Market.

Salmoni’s was a grocery store run by T.J. Salmoni starting in 1894.

The last shop of the block was S.J. Fleming Millinery.

In the distance is The Exchange Hotel which was built in the 1860s.

My grandfather, Delbert Malott, later owned the Malott meat market. My mother was Barbara Jean Malott.

Too bad after the fire this section wasn’t recreated to look like the original here instead of the ugly monstrosity that’s there now!
