At the risk of alienating myself further from society, I’d like to talk to you about the moon. Before I do though, a bit of context. The moon has always fascinated me. A benevolent night light in the sky, but so much more than that.
Let’s be clear, I’m not an astrologer or astronomer, but I do have a keen interest in the moon because I am affected by it, in its various phases. (insert eye roll here from those of you who don’t believe in such things)
Rest assured, I’m not the only one it affects though. Talk to anyone in policing, nursing or mental health services and you may find they likely agree, the moon is a powerful mistress.
In fact, the term lunatic has been around since the 1800s. The Oxford English Dictionary says the Latin origins of the term are “luna” meaning moon, and “atic” meaning “of the kind of” and combine to describe a kind of insanity supposedly associated with the moon phases.
What else do we know about the moon? It controls the tides of the oceans … which consists of water. Humans … also contain water, on average about 60 per cent. So I submit then, it is not inconceivable that we too are affected by the moon.
So, for those of you still with me, you may be asking … who cares? Or, that’s nice, but what’s that got to do with me?
Well. I’ve got good news for us all.
On May 19, 2023 the New Moon entered Taurus and what that means is, despite your astrological sign, or penchant for skepticism, you are in for some good luck. This is due to the influence of Jupiter, the planet directly associated with luck.
Neptune also appeared in Pisces to give rise to creativity and romance, while the planet Mars in Cancer provided impetus to act on what we want. All of these combine to present a New Moon to wish upon.
Every New Moon is a time for intention setting and an opportunity to think about what we’d like more of in our lives. This New Moon in Taurus is ripe for ushering in new fresh energies to create abundance, prosperity, and pleasures like good food and company.
I’ve got your attention now, don’t I?
You may be asking, what do I have to do to take advantage of this New Moon energy?
The answer is whatever feels aligned to you. Anything from journaling to frolicking naked in the moonlight in your yard …. OK maybe not that — after all you do have neighbours! Honestly though, it can be as simple as thinking about what you want to create for yourself.
Let’s take a look at how this New Moon will affect each astrological sign …
New people are coming towards you. You will have increased confidence and a greater sense of self worth.
Oh baby, here comes some good luck, optimism and expansion. Can I get an Amen?!
There’s been a lot going on inside of you. This moon provides an opportunity to look at old ideas and patterns, and shed what no longer serves you.
It’s all about community and shared values. Have some fun with people who align with you.
Leadership opportunities are coming your way. Time to be seen and heard. Keep your focus and know … you’ve got this.
Expanding horizons, travel or spiritual development … in any event it’s time to take a trip, man. Break your routine and get out of your own way.
Time for reinvention. Think about what you want and how you want it to look. Answer any longings and enjoy the ride.
Romance and pleasure make an appearance for you. Focus on yourself and how you want to experience your relationships. Honour yourself and the right people will stick around.
Fortify and care for your body and mind. Set boundaries with others, to honour yourself.
You’ve worked hard, now enjoy what you’ve created. Live a little, eh?
It’s been a tough go. The good news is you’ve made it and good things and people are coming towards you. Family, be they related or not, are there to support you.
You have an opportunity to create some magic in your everyday life. Open new doors and try new practices that will fortify and sustain you.
Whether you believe in the power of the Moon or not, good things are coming your way. Relax and allow them to come, with an open and grateful heart.
And if I do happen see you in your yard, I will certainly avert my gaze.
Happy New Moon, friends!
