This April 17th “Committee of the Whole” meeting will focus on the future of Main Street and downtown Kingsville. A review of the findings and comments of the Main Street Development Review Committee was identified as one of Council’s 2023 Strategic Priorities.
In 2020, Council formed a Main Street Development Review Committee to evaluate the current state of Main Street and suggest opportunities to help guide future decisions. The Committee presented a series of comments, recommendations, and ideas. Council referred the comments, recommendations, and ideas over to Town Staff for implementation or feedback.
Town Staff have implemented numerous actions in response to ideas presented by the Committee and will seek comments and direction from the members of the “Committee of the Whole” on items not yet completed. The update will provide an overview of these actions and discussion points in each of the four areas the Committee explored, including:
1. Main Street Traffic, including traffic congestion, and the option to eliminate on-street parking to make way for bike lanes or turning lanes for vehicles,
2. Heritage, including discussion on requiring heritage designation on downtown properties identified by the Heritage Committee,
3. Urban Design, including discussion on restricting building heights, setbacks, and other policies affecting the Main Street corridor,
4. Streetscape and Signage, including discussion on creating a signage by-law and streetscape design.
Committee of the Whole is a public meeting and will meet at 6:00 pm at the Kingsville Arena, second floor, 1741 Jasperson Drive.
All community members are welcome to attend, especially those who participated on the Main Street Development Review Committee and any who may be interested in development and changes to Main Street.
