Something to sing about!
It’s official. The vernal equinox arrives on Monday, March 20 at 5:24 p.m. EST. Daylight hours just keep on increasing. As our hemisphere tilts toward the sun the weather will be getting warmer — and it’s spring!
If you’re itching to get into your garden, or enjoy a bike ride without having to grit your teeth against the cold, then this is the time of year for you. It might be a bit too soon to go on a picnic but the day is coming closer.
Don’t put away your winter coat and scarf just yet though. As history has shown us all too many times, the official kick off for spring will not necessarily be accompanied by the actual change in season just yet. We might even get some snow in the next month. (Sorry.)
But it won’t be long now, and then we’ll see the flowers in bloom and feel the sun on our faces. It will soon be time to break out the spring jackets (and umbrellas — sorry again.) Hopping on your bike may be looking more attractive. Going for a stroll or a hike will become a simpler and gentler affair.
If you’ve been counting down the days till winter is over, this is a wonderful time of year. I’m looking forward to having coffee out on the patio after dinner while it’s still daylight. And we’ll see plenty of birds, squirrels and rabbits at the feeders and in the birdbath and all over the yard.
I’m always surprised and pleased at the way they rarely pay any mind to us. We are just part of the landscape for them. Such a delightful bonus to look forward to in the spring.
