Essex County residents are asked to be patient and check local municipal websites for updates as the cleanup of tree branches brought down during last week’s ice storm continues.
The county’s Infrastructure and Planning Services department is consulting with local municipalities to ensure all areas are covered. Essex County road maintenance crews are picking up branches from trees on county property. Large branches are being hauled away and smaller ones are being loaded into a chipper.
Here’s what local municipalities are doing:
– The Town of Amherstburg will begin tree debris cleanup on Thursday, March 2. Residents are asked to register their property before March 10 by calling 519-730-2113 or completing the online form.
– The Town of Essex is asking residents who do not wish to haul away tree debris to leave it at the side of the road in front of their property. More details are available on the town’s website.
– The Town of Kingsville has an additional yard waste collection on Thursday, March 2. For details of what will be taken see pages 6-7 of the collection calendar. Tree limb’s that are too large for yard waste collection can be placed at the curb for town staff to pick up. More details are available on Kingsville’s website.
– The Municipality of Lakeshore will start picking up tree branches and limbs in designated urban areas on Saturday, March 4, and continue until Friday, March 10. All branches must be placed at the curb by the end of the day on Friday, March 3. A list of the areas where the service is being provided and more details are available on Lakeshore’s website.
– The Town of LaSalle began a one-time roadside collection of small to medium-sized branches on Monday, Feb. 27. Residents are asked to put branches at the curb or edge of the road. More details are available on the town’s website.
– The Municipality of Leamington is advising residents to place downed branches they can’t dispose of themselves at the roadside for collection. More details are available on Leamington’s website.
– The Town of Tecumseh will commence one-time roadside collection of tree branches on Wednesday, March 1. The work is expected to continue until Tuesday, March 7. More details are available on Tecumseh’s website.
All municipalities are asking residents to make sure tree branches they leave at the roadside do not block roadways, sidewalks or driveways.
Residents can also drop off downed branches and stumps at the Essex-Windsor Solid Waste Authority’s public drop off depot in Windsor, waste transfer station in Kingsville and the regional recycling depot in Essex. More information is available on the solid waste authority’s website.
