Together, as a team, we can do great things to serve our community!
Scouts Canada has a vision of Canadian youth making a meaningful contribution to creating a better world.
Recently, Candice Heinrichs, a Howler Cub with 2nd Cottam Scouting, showed her commitment to this vision when she set a goal of raising money for a very special cause: The Ronald McDonald House Charities in Windsor. Candice’s Aunt Brooke was a patient with the RMHC and their family utilized and greatly benefitted from the services.
Candice organized a number of fundraising initiatives that spanned the last month.
She started with a loonie drive at Gosfield North Public School where she attends classes. Subsequently, a second loonie drive was organized at Camp Cedarwin where 2nd Cottam Scouting had an investiture for new Youth and Scouters, along with a campfire built by Candice’s Cub and Scout friends.
Her following event was a hot chocolate, coffee and baked goods sale in Essex on November 25. This event took place just outside of the ‘Once Upon a Time Child Care Centre’ where other members of 2nd Cottam Scouting pitched in to help.
Her final event took place on December 3 at the Cottam Rotary Park where she sold hot beverages to the public.
Candice is working toward the top award for Cubs, the Seeonee Award. She has already completed the majority of requirements for this award which include 10 Outdoor Adventure skills; 15 community service hours (which she has far surpassed); and personal achievement badges such as the Community badge, the Canada badge, and the World Badge.
Candice will travel to Windsor this Friday to present the Ronald McDonald House Charities with a cheque in the amount of $1,340.00 to help them in their work supporting local children and their families.
Congratulations Candice and all of the members of 2nd Cottam Scouting for a job well done!
