The County of Essex has launched a recruitment campaign for a dynamic and financially savvy Chief Administrative Officer to lead a rapidly growing upper-tier municipality.
The County is seeking a proven leader who can foster a culture of collaboration, respect and results, with a proven ability to develop strategic solutions, excellent financial management and communications skills, and a demonstrated capacity for problem solving and effectively handling competing priorities. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years’ experience in a senior executive position, preferably in the municipal sector.
The CAO oversees all departments and operations of the County of Essex, including a regional land ambulance service, a long-term care home and an Infrastructure Services Department that maintains some 1,500 km of roadway and a 412-km network of bicycle lanes that is ever expanding and will eventually cover 800 km.
The CAO reports to the Warden, who is the head of County government, and Council, consisting of 14 members – the mayors and deputy mayors of Essex County’s seven local municipalities.
The County of Essex is Canada’s southernmost region. We are nestled between Lakes St. Clair and Erie, next to one of the busiest international border crossings in North America in Windsor.
Our County is made up of seven municipalities: Amherstburg, LaSalle, Tecumseh, Lakeshore, Essex, Kingsville and Leamington. Together, we serve nearly 200,000 citizens and have a strong agricultural and industrial base.
