The nomination period for the Municipal election in Kingsville effectively closed on Friday, August 19 and not without some last minute intrigue.
Several notable shifts left some scratching their heads when Mayoral Candidate Samson Zad changed course and moved to the Deputy Mayor’s list while Councillor Candidate Dennis Rogers moved to the Mayoral list.
When reached for comment about his move into the Mayoral race, Dennis Rogers shone a light on his decision.
“Over the last couple weeks I’ve had a huge outpouring of people-residents, community leaders and business owners reach out to me to ask me to consider running for mayor. These next four years are going to pivotal for our community in recovery as well as laying out our future planning. We’ve been through 2 of the darkest years in recent history and our community needs a strong, positive, supportive, open minded leader to help get us there. After many conversations and consideration I truly feel that my leadership best serves our community as mayor. My track record of bringing people together like the Greenway Jam is some of the community wins I’ll be looking to continue.’
When contacted by phone Deputy Mayoral candidate Samson Zad asked for more time to formulate his response. If a response is forthcoming, an update to this article will be published.
Several different All Candidate Meetings and Debate events are being planned for voters.
