CIYC 50th Anniversary Focuses on Past Successes and Bright Future

Commodore Rachel Park addresses guests at CIYC 50th anniversary

Commodore Rachel Park welcomed 120 guests to the Cedar Island Yacht Club to celebrate our 50th Anniversary.

Tom Bailey, one of our founding members and well known in the Kingsville and Leamington communities gave a brief history of the Club. Dennis Graham added to his story starting from the late ’70s until today.

It was a great party that included original members, members who have been there for many years, and those that have just recently joined.

We continue our weekly racing programs and regattas (for visiting clubs) but cruising to Pelee Island, Put-in-Bay, Ohio, and the North Channel in Lake Huron, are some of our favourite destinations.

To entice non-boaters to enjoy the sport of sailing and the camaraderie at the Club, we offer both Adult and Youth Sailing Programs.

Charter Member Tom Bailey shares history of CIYC

For those who paddle by our boats, our Paddle Pass Program invites kayakers, paddle boarders and other small boats to join the club, to store and to launch their small water craft from our floating docks.

In the closing statement of our history Graham said, “So now as we turn 50, our future looks bright. Our commitment to the community and support from the community and Ontario Sailing has never been stronger.”

  2. Please pass along my email to Beth and Denny Graham. Beth worked with my dad at the Windsor Board and I reconnected with her yesterday at Dad’s memorial (if I have the ‘correct’ Beth and Dennis Graham). THANK YOU.
