Highlights from June 13 Town Council Meeting

Council Highlights

At the June 13, 2022, Council meeting, Council:

– Approved waiving $19,000 in development charges and permits to support the Kyiv Home Project, a development initiative to provide safe housing for two displaced Ukrainian families in our community and offer sustainable support to refugees for up to the next five years.

– Awarded the Canteen Services contract to Cidermill Farms Inc, which will allow arena and sports field users to purchase food and refreshments at the arena. In addition to the standard canteen options, Cidermill will offer gluten-free, vegetarian and potentially vegan options and provide environmentally-friendly packaging.

– Approved the next phase of the West Side Collector road, awarding the contract for Engineering Services to Stantec Construction. Future development charges will primarily fund this project.

– Directed Administration to develop a by-law that would prohibit people from blowing grass clippings onto the street, bike lanes and sidewalks, as clippings make roads and pathways slippery and dangerous to cyclists and motorcycles. The bylaw will also prohibit contractors from leaving debris, dirt, gravel etc. on the roadways, bike lanes, and sidewalks

    Also dumping debris into the creeks should be included in the above bylaw.
