CIYC is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year!
The blessing of the fleet is an event held every year. It is a tradition with most nautical and recreational boating clubs to begin the boating season. This year it was held on May 29.
We gather to honour those members who have departed by placing flowers in the harbour and the playing of the lament on the pipes by John Woodbridge. We welcome the coming year by personal reflection and hope for a safe and enjoyable boating season.
Kristyn Watton read a very moving sermon and a member of the local indigenous community conducted a smudging ceremony to celebrate the past and future travels on the lake. The commodore’s burgee was hoisted by Dave Bowring in honour of the new commodore, Rachel Park.
Further celebrations are scheduled:
CIYC Open House on June 26 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm is an opportunity for the public to come out and have a look at our facilities, check out the new Paddle Pass, Youth and Adult Sailing Programs and memberships.
