Pet of the Week: Meet Amigo

Hey y’all!! How do you do? *Ahem* Oops, my bad, I’m so used to being in Texas that my kind of slang may be a bit different from yours … But I’m a Canadian now so it’s time to get used to using my ‘Eh’s’ instead!! And getting Tim’s and eating Old Fashioned Plain donuts. Oh man, I’m so excited to be a Canadian, can’t you tell?

Let me introduce myself. In case you haven’t heard, I’m one of the 90 other dogs that came all the way from Texas! We have been in amazing foster homes for a couple weeks, and are ready for our new adoptive homes!

Here is what my foster home has to say about me:

“Amigo has been a wonderful house guest and we have had so much fun getting to know him. He is very gentle and well mannered. He caught onto the family’s routine very quickly and settled in quite well after a few days. He absolutely loves his walks but is very strong on leash, pulls a bit and tends to want to chase after any wildlife or other dogs he comes across.

“He will need some help with learning to walk nicely on leash. He is very smart and very food motivated, so he will likely be easy to train. He is beginning to understand basic commands such as sit, stay and come. He hasn’t quite mastered the game of fetch yet but is very good at catching things mid-air.

“He was friendly toward all the human friends he met but didn’t seem too keen on our Budgies. He did not have any direct contact with other dogs, cats or small children while he was with us but he did seem friendly and playful with the neighbours dog through the fence and got along well with our teenagers.

“Small animals (besides dogs) may not be the best match for him. He liked just hanging around the family and would lay right by your feet while you are cooking (no doubt hoping to catch some food that drops!) We noticed that when the TV is a bit loud or the noisy teenagers were being extra noisy, he would go in his crate or the other room.

“He likes his crate and often goes in there on his own for naps and quiet time. He seems to prefer a calm, quiet environment. He is a great dog and we know he will definitely bring lots of joy to his new family.”
