Meeting to Consider Adoption of Town’s Revised Official Plan March 28

On Monday, March 28, 2022, Kingsville Town Council will receive and consider adopting the final version of the Town’s Official Plan, as reviewed by the County of Essex. The meeting starts at 6:00 pm.

The Official Plan is the Town’s general land use planning policies brought together into a single plan. It makes sure that growth is coordinated and meets the Town’s needs. The Official Plan helps decide where roads, watermains, sewers, parks and other publicly-owned services will be built. It also provides a framework for establishing municipal zoning bylaws that set local regulations and standards, like the size of lots and the height of buildings. Importantly the Official Plan shows the Town’s commitment to the future of measured and responsible growth in our community.

We must review our Official Plan every five years. We are in the final stage of the review process, which began in 2018. After Council adopted the proposed Plan in late 2020, the Town sent it to the County of Essex for review and comment.

The County provided detailed feedback, and while making those amendments, staff took the opportunity to incorporate language about the developing Main Street corridor policy and update language about worker housing, both of which will prompt further changes to the Plan once their direction is finalized. However, the Town must have an interim policy in place to complete the five-year review process.
