Essex Region Conservation Bike Tour Was a Fundraising Success

Despite the wet weather at the start of the ERCA fundraising Bike Tour on the greenway from Kingsville to Harrow and return, it was a pleasant ride on September 25. The sun appeared and dried everything out. In our 32 km ride, we managed to miss all the rain!

I enjoyed riding with my MFit team members Jan Taves, Marlene Neufeld Augerman and Marissa Augerman.

Happy 20th birthday, Marissa! We hope you enjoyed your cupcakes.

There were 140 cyclists who raised $11000 in pledges and with sponsors, more than $20,000 was raised Saturday. Five routes were laid out on the road and greenway, from 15 to 110 km to accommodate all levels of riders.

The race started at Mettawas Park and waves of 10 participants started together to ensure social distancing.

Thank you Danielle Steubing, ERCA volunteers andThe Hub Operated By Samantha Buhler, for organizing a great event and providing us with lunch at the end. The Hub provided a delicious lunch for the riders which included a wrap, salad and drink.

Danielle said, “We had nearly 140 participants this year who raised more than $20,000 for conservation in this region. A very exciting outcome, considering the challenges with the weather. The Essex Region Conservation Foundation is extremely grateful to everyone who participated, sponsored, volunteered and pledged!”

Thanks also to CWATS for providing free trail maps, bike bells, lights, reflective strips and back packs. And thank you as well to Infinity Cycle who did on-the-spot minor bike adjustments, and put air in tires for the participants at the Grovedale, Mettawas Park.

Trail On!!!
