Food for Thought: Pizza & Coffee 2 Go Restaurant Review

Hello again. I hope you all are hangin’ in there despite everything. I too, am doing my best. This latest lockdown though, has given me pause for thought. I suppose a bit of self-reflection is a good thing, except when it isn’t.

Lately I’ve found my mind wandering back to happier times, if for no other reason than to think of something positive. Thoughts of carefree days, of youth and energy, of crimped hair and imagined angst, of music and dancing and late, late nights with friends.

As I thought about those long crazy nights from my misspent youth, it occurred to me that almost every one of these evenings ended with some sort of food. Quite often pizza. And we were not alone. Late nights our pizza place was always jammed.

Pizza is, in fact — and with good reason — the most popular food in the entire world. I’m pretty sure that’s true, but I may have made it up. Regardless, there’s no denying pizza’s universal appeal.  Listen, if pizza is the preferred food of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, who am I to argue?

I mean c’mon, at a minimum you are holding at least three of four food groups in the palm of your hand. Wow. Not to mention the taste. Oh pizza you salty,  cheesy, melty companion. I adore you. Even though you occasionally burn the roof of my mouth (I can accept some of the blame for this) I love you still.

Pizza & Coffee 2 Go’s pineapple and pepperoni pizza

Back in the day I always ordered pepperoni and cheese. Basic you say? Classic, I reply. I do vary from this on occasion and I even enjoy adding pineapple from time to time. Yes. I am one of those, and I’ll proudly proclaim it.

Steve, unfortunately is firmly in the other camp and to such a degree that there can’t be a trace of pineapple on our shared pizza. His concerns being:

A) migration of rogue pineapple chunks onto his side
B) absorption of any pineapple juice by his crust or toppings.

… sigh …

So, we order two mediums, stay happily married, and I have leftovers for breakfast.

As it happens we currently seem to be in a transitional pizza period. Meaning we have eaten our body weight in our regular pizza and are looking for a new pizza place to try.

Fast forward a few days, and I am driving through Kingsville just for something to do. I noticed the Pizza and Coffee 2 Go sign and I immediately thought, “I love both of those!” The sign had all the information I required. I decided I needed to see what both the pizza and the coffee were like. I owed it to myself, and to my readers.

Naturally then, my next review is of Pizza & Coffee 2 Go in Kingsville.

Pizza & Coffee 2 Go’s pepperoni and green pepper pizza

I ordered our food and a coffee for the wait. The coffee was good, and I liked it much better than what I’ve had at some of the big coffee places. Based on that, I couldn’t wait to get into the pizza. The smell was intoxicating as I drove home to Steve.

My pizza was beautifully bestowed with cheese, pepperoni and pineapple. I added a few shakes of chili pepper flakes and dove right in. It was amazing.

Good amount of toppings and whole sliced pepperoni — Check.

Nice tasting sauce and not too much so as to be overpowering — Check.

Beautiful burst of sweet pineapple — Check.

Overall, a well-balanced pizza. Steve agreed. His pepperoni and green pepper pizza was also greatly enjoyed and eaten in its entirety. I was hoping to get out of making dinner, but alas! No such luck.

Thank you, Pizza & Coffee 2 Go in Kingsville for the excellent pizza and coffee. I forgive you for making me have to make dinner. Steve just could not resist your deliciousness. Thank you, too, for being a pizza place worthy of transitioning to.

Perhaps some day soon you will find yourself in a transitional pizza period and needing a new place to try. In that event I’d suggest Pizza & Coffee 2 Go. Great pizza, great service. Donatello would be proud!
