A lot has changed over the past year and we are thankful for the ongoing support of our partners at the Department of National Defence and Canadian Armed Forces.

This fall, leading up to Remembrance Day on Nov. 11, we encourage all those who can to honour members of the Canadian Armed Forces, past and present, by booking an appointment to donate blood, raising awareness for the Canadian Blood Services Stem Cell Registry or offering a financial donation to Canadian Blood Services.

Together, we are Canada’s Lifeline.

Canadian military history and blood donation

During the final year of World War II, Canadians donated 890,000 units of blood for use in military hospitals. This generous response gave birth to Canada’s voluntary blood system. Members of the Canadian Armed Forces and Department of National Defence civilian employees are some of the most generous and loyal supporters of the important work being done by Canadian Blood Services.

In 2006, the Department of National Defence became Canadian Blood Services’ first national Partner for Life organization. Since then, they have donated over 45,000 units of blood and inspired thousands to become regular blood donors. In 2019, the Canadian Armed Forces contributed over 4,300 units of blood and recruited over 300 new donors.

Become a registered stem cell donor or help raise awareness among young adults aged 17-35 to join Canadian Blood Services Stem Cell Registry.

Every new registrant brings hope to patients waiting for a lifesaving stem cell transplant. New potential donors can complete their registration online, right from home, at blood.ca/StemCells.

Make a financial contribution to Canadian Blood Services in honour of fallen, departed and standing members of the Canadian Armed Forces.

Financial giving is a great way to involve those who are not able to donate blood or register to join the stem cell registry at this time. Learn more about how to make a one-time or recurring donation, or how to raise funds in support of Canadian Blood Services at give.blood.ca

Raise awareness on your social platforms. If you have been impacted by blood, stem cell or financial donations to Canadian Blood Services, we encourage you to share your story.
Tag @CanadasLifeline @NationalDefence or @CanadianForces using the hashtags #RemembranceDay #CanadasLifeline or #PartnersForLife whenever possible.
