Erie Shore Vineyard: You Can’t Go Wrong with Our Cabernet 2016

Whenever you first start out exploring and trying new wines, whether you are new to wine or have never been to a winery before, the question you ask the clerk is always the same. “Which wine should I try? What do you recommend I try?” This is where the retail clerk will provide a recommendation and a little description to give you an idea of what to expect before that first sip.

You may not have a glass in front of you to sip and we may not be in a retail store at the moment, but why don’t I give you my recommendation for a great autumn red to warm you up on those cold evenings anyways.

If you haven’t had the chance to try our Erie Shore Vineyard wines yet or better yet if you have, either way you can never go wrong with our Cabernet 2016. With its ruby hue, you know this wine is a real gem, but it’s the inviting cherry and refreshing hint of earth aromas that will really grab your attention. And when you take that first sip, the acidity combined with the bold tannins of a young red wine will give you that small bite before being soothed by the flavors of cherry.

As you let this wine sit through the night, giving it the chance to mellow (usually referred to as “breathe”)  you start to experience the complexity of this wine. It starts with an all-encompassing feeling in your mouth, that drying sensation on your tongue and the velvety texture on the surface of your cheeks and teeth that can only come from the tannins of a full-bodied red.

But unlike most full-bodied reds, with bold and intense heat along with some bitterness, this wine reins in this weight on your palate making it a much smoother experience that won’t overpower you.

But if you want to take this adventure to the next level, take a bite of BBQ seasoned steak with steakhouse mushrooms on the side. The meat will soak up the tannins in the wine, smoothing out the wine even further whilst the seasonings on the steak will accentuate the cherry flavors. Couple that with the savory flavors of the steakhouse mushrooms and you’ll create an evening that other people only dream about.
