SIU Investigating Fatal Police-Involved Shooting In Windsor

The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the death of a 40-year-old man following a fatal police-involved shooting that occurred yesterday in Windsor.

Preliminary information suggests the following:
  • On the evening of March 18, 2026, a man armed with a knife was alleged to have committed a robbery at a convenience store on Sandwich Street.
  • Police officers with the Windsor Police Service located the man in the area of Rankin Avenue and Wyandotte Street.
  • An interaction ensued where conducted energy weapons were deployed, followed by two officers discharging their firearms. The man was struck.
  • He was transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased at 9:35 p.m.

Three investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.
