Sandra Klerks – Kingsville Celebration Centre Obituary

With broken hearts yet extreme proudness of her fight, we are sharing that our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend has passed away. On Saturday, January 24th, Sandra Arlene Klerks joined her late husband, Goby Klerks (2009), on their forever beach with a Cuban rum cocktail waiting for her.

What was anticipated to be a brief hospital admission quickly turned into a nearly 2-month rollercoaster of endless hardships for Sandra and her adoring family. Her long awaited cocktail is more than well-deserved and her family is holding up their cheers to her.

Left to remember Sandra are her daughters, Patty Willms (Warren Walls) and Kim Reid (Sandra Kirst), her grandchildren Amanda Willms (Colton), Noah Willms, Andrew Reid, Stephanie Kirst (Cody), and Mackenzie Walls, as well as great-grandsons Dash and Lennox Walls. Sharing endless comfort and cuddles with the family is Chloe, Sandra’s cherished kitty who laid in her lap until she knew her best friend was finally at peace.

Sandra was the sister and best friend of Lorraine Dillon (Jim) and the late Shirley Young, each having brought a special lifelong bond of fun and mischief to life that only sisters could. Also left to share tales of their childhood is her brother Marvin Heimbecker (Betty), who filled Sandra’s heart by surprising her at her 80th birthday party this past October, and brother Ronnie Heimbecker (Barb). Sandra was also predeceased by her dear late brother John Heimbecker and his wife, Audrey.

Sandra was born in Hanover, ON and moved to Kingsville with Goby, Patty, and Kim in 1975. Their family owned Klerks Variety on Heritage Rd next to Cedar Beach and ran it for 5 years.

When they weren’t selling bait or scooping ice cream for beachgoers (although that was usually the girls’ job), Sandra and Goby were avid boaters, spending countless summers at Casper’s Marina aboard Best Buy and later Castaway. Following the summer seasons, they regularly flew south to Cuba where they became extended family to some of their most treasured friends.

For 80 years Sandra brought laughter, shenanigans, and outgoing joy to the lives of her loved ones. We will forever remember her fierceness, sass, and perfectly executed one liners, and will treasure her ability to find both the zest in life and sturdiest of picnic tables to dance on.

Our family would like to truly thank nurses Josie and Max, patient experience specialist Tee, and Dr. Kashash at Erie Shores HealthCare, and nurse Mackenzie and doctors Cribby and Ilyas at Windsor Regional Hospital for their exceptional compassion towards our mother and grandmother. Each of you brought trust and comfort to our family during some of the most distressing days and conversations, and that is a remarkable gift.

We would also like to thank nurse Ryan who took care of her and our family during her last moments. Having your umbrella of support instantly cover us and allow us to focus on loving every last minute of her will forever leave an imprint on us.

In accordance with Sandra’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held. Arrangements entrusted to Kendrick Funeral Home, Kingsville.

If you so wish, donations in memory of Sandra may be made to the Windsor-Essex County Humane Society. Online memories and condolences may be shared at www.kendrickfuneralhome.com.
