Gary McNamara, Board Chair for the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) issued the following statement on Wednesday, June 16, 2021:

“The Board of the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit fully supports federal, provincial and local public health unit recommendations regarding the mixing and matching of COVID-19 vaccines.

“Mixing and matching of vaccines is not a new concept and occurs with many vaccines, such as Hepatitis B vaccines. The National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) made the strong recommendation based on the scientific data from the United Kingdom, Spain and Germany to support mixing and matching of COVID-19 vaccines.

“The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit will continue to make recommendations based on scientific evidence and will always act in the best interest of the community.”
