Account registration for Breakaway, the toll discount program for the Gordie Howe International Bridge, is now open for personal travellers. This is a prepaid account for individuals, families and commuters, offering up to four Breakaway tags on one account.
Accounts are easy to open and tags are free. Prior to bridge opening, an initial deposit of $20 is required, reduced from the standard $50 deposit after bridge opening. This will be the starting balance for your future toll payments.
As a special bonus, the first 1,000 personal account registrants will receive a commemorative hockey card in their welcome package.

Vehicles equipped with Breakaway tags can use any open toll lane, the gate will lift within seconds, and charges will be attributed to your account.
For added convenience, Breakaway accounts also can be linked to NEXUS cards or scanned through a QR code at toll lanes.

Toll Rates
Our toll rates balance affordability and the modern amenities travellers will enjoy when travelling to their cross border destinations.
Passenger vehicles under 2.3 metres/7.5 feet in height will pay a standard rate of $8.00 CAD/$5.75 USD per crossing. While registered Breakaway members will pay a discounted rate of $6.00 CAD/$4.35 USD.
