The road to a national title runs through Windsor this March. From March 13 to 15, the University of Windsor will host the 2026 U SPORTS BioSteel Men’s Volleyball Championship at the Toldo Lancer Centre, as the country’s top eight programs and most accomplished student-athletes compete for Canadian university sport’s highest honour.
The championship represents the pinnacle of men’s university volleyball in Canada.
The tournament regularly features All-Canadians, conference players of the year and athletes who advance to professional leagues and national team programs — making it one of the premier showcases of elite volleyball talent in the country.
“For three days, Windsor will be home to the very best university volleyball in Canada,” said Eric Vandenbroucke, University of Windsor associate director of athletics and host coordinator. “This event gives our community the chance to see the athleticism, power and skill that define the very best of men’s volleyball — and to witness student-athletes who are competing at the highest level in their sport.”
The Windsor Lancers will enter the championship not only as championship hosts, but as title contenders.
Under head coach James Gravelle, the program has consistently been ranked in the top 10 in Canada and has qualified for multiple national championship tournaments in recent seasons. This year’s Lancer squad is a veteran and experienced group that is built to compete on the country’s biggest stage.
“Our team has earned the opportunity to compete at nationals,” said Gravelle. “To do it at home, in front of our fans, against the best teams in Canada, is very exciting and something they’ve worked toward for their entire careers.”
Fans can expect high-intensity rallies, incredible serving and championship-calibre defense throughout the weekend.
The state-of-the-art Toldo Lancer Centre will serve as the host facility, with thousands expected to attend, and national broadcasts on CBC Gem showcasing the event and the University of Windsor from coast to coast.
Beyond the competition, the championship is expected to generate significant economic and community impact.
Teams, supporters and officials travelling from across Canada will contribute to local hotels, restaurants and businesses, reinforcing the role university sport plays in driving regional activity and national visibility.
Hosting the championship also highlights the University’s commitment to student experience and community engagement. The event will create opportunities for student volunteers, campus spirit and youth inspiration across Windsor-Essex.
“This is an exciting moment for our campus and our city,” said Vandenbroucke. “It’s about excellence, pride and bringing the very best of Canadian university sport to Windsor.”
The University of Windsor acknowledges the support of championship partners CUPE 1393, Volunteer Sponsor, and IG Wealth Management, Community Engagement School Program Lead Sponsor.
Tournament passes are available now, with special student pricing to ensure accessibility for the campus community.
