The Connecting Families Initiative (CFI) is a Government of Canada program that offers discounted Internet services to eligible Canadians. Those who qualify can also request a low-cost digital device, while supplies last.
This initiative is administered by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED), while Internet Service Providers (ISPs) across Canada voluntarily participate in the initiative.
Eligibility for the Connecting Families Initiative (CFI) is confirmed annually by the Government of Canada. If you are eligible, you will receive a letter from the Government of Canada or Service Canada inviting you to participate in this initiative.
To be eligible for the CFI, you must fall into one of two categories:
- Families – Families are eligible if they receive the maximum amount of the Canada Child Benefit (CCB). You can check your eligibility using the Canada Child Benefit Calculator.
- Seniors – Eligible seniors for the CFI program must receive at least 80% of the maximum amount of Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS), as determined by the Guaranteed Income Supplement Estimator.
If you have received an invitation letter confirming your eligibility to participate in the CFI, we encourage you to sign-up for discounted Internet services. Only those who receive a letter can take part in the initiative.
To join the CFI, you must sign up in the Connecting Families registration portal.

To Whom this may concern:
I have taken advantage of CFI internet plan #2 for 200GB of data throughout 2025, then changed to Plan#1
100 GB now in January 2026, only to discover I am still billed the same amount of $49.95 and tax for a lesser plan by ISP BELL. I would appreciate some clarification of why the internet bill for CFI isn’t a lesser amount, it STILL amounts to $49.95 plus tax of my Bell bundle.
