Humane Society Cozy Cats Campaign Aims To Revitalize Intake Rooms

Humane

This holiday season, the Windsor/Essex County Humane Society is calling on the community to help bring comfort, enrichment, and calm to cats entering the shelter through its new Cozy Cats campaign.

The shelter aims to raise $12,500 to upgrade its seven cat intake rooms — the oldest part of the building, constructed in 1971.

These rooms, which house thousands of cats each year, have no windows, cement block walls, and aging fluorescent lighting. The Humane Society plans to transform these spaces by installing:

  • Broad-spectrum lighting that mimics natural sunlight
  • Resting shelf/perch hideaways in every kennel
  • Monitors that play calming enrichment videos to comfort and entertain cats during their stay

“These upgrades will make a huge difference for the cats who come through our doors,” said Lynnette Bain, Executive Director.

“A more soothing, enriched environment helps cats  feel calmer, happier, and more at home while they wait for adoption.”

The campaign launched early to allow the community extra time to support the project. So far, $2,772 has already been raised, but the shelter is asking for public help to reach the full $12,500 goal by Giving Tuesday.

Donations can be made directly on the Humane Society’s website. “Every gift brings us one step closer to creating brighter, more comforting spaces for cats who need it most,” Lynnette Bain added.

Donate today and help make life cozier for shelter cats this Giving Tuesday.
