The Town of Essex is pleased to have been awarded “Charged for Change” funding through Aviva Canada in partnership with Earth Day Canada.
Charged for Change is a program that provides funding for public electric vehicle (EV) charging installations in communities across Canada with limited or no access to EV infrastructure. The program will be investing a total of $3 million over 3 years to help Canadian communities in their transition to electric mobility.
As a result of this funding award, eight new Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations will be installed in the community:
- Four chargers at the Wilson Street parking lot (Heritage Gardens Park)
- Four chargers at the Harrow Arena parking lot
“Globally, we are seeing the consequences of climate change and the need to address its effects is now. One of the many ways we can reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions is to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles. With the support of Aviva Canada through the Charged for Change program, we were able to make a difference by bringing charging opportunities in communities where they were lacking and help Canadians access infrastructure and take charge for a sustainable future.” Said Valérie Mallamo, Earth Day Canada Executive Director.
