Pet of the Week: Meet Oreo

Oreo
6-year-old Female Domestic Short Hair

Hi, I’m Oreo. I know I look tough, but underneath it all … I’m just a girl who’s been through a lot. My whole world changed when my person passed away. I didn’t understand what was happening, and suddenly I was in a new, unfamiliar place without the person I loved most.

At first, I was really scared and shut down completely. I didn’t want anyone to come near me. I was grieving and confused. But the kind people here gave me space, time, and lots of patience. Slowly, I started to realize that maybe it was okay to open up again.

Now, I love getting attention (on my terms, of course). Head and chin scratches are the best, and when I trust you, I’ll even lean in for more. I’ve lived with another cat before, so I might do okay with a calm, respectful feline friend.

But what I really need is a human who understands that I may not be a cuddly lap cat right away — or ever. I’ll need time, space, and grace to feel truly safe again. When I get overwhelmed or overstimulated, I may swat, hiss, or give a warning nip.

It’s nothing personal. I just don’t always know how to say “I need a break” gently. If you’re patient, kind, and willing to let me come around at my own pace, I promise I have so much love to give. I’m not perfect, but I’ve come a long way. All I need now is someone who believes in me.

One last thing … I do have medical needs that have to be tended to. I have a grade 3/6 heart murmur. I’m a Hidden Gem, so my adoption fee is waived ($30 admin fee still applies)!
