Leamington Issues Traffic Access Update For Seacliff Drive West

The Municipality of Leamington is advising residents and motorists of updated traffic access related to the Seacliff Drive West Sanitary Sewer Extension and Roundabout Construction project.

Seacliff Drive West is closed to through traffic while construction continues.

All residents and businesses east of Paglione Drive, but not including Paglione Drive, will have access from the east end of the project via Seacliff Drive at Sherk Street.

Residents of Paglione Drive and areas west must enter and exit their properties from the west end of the project via Seacliff Drive at Fraser Road.

Motorists are reminded that construction zones and detours are in place for safety reasons. Drivers must obey all posted signage and avoid entering closed sections of the roadway. Ignoring road closure signs and driving through the work area is both unsafe and may result in vehicles becoming stuck in unpaved or unstable conditions.

The Municipality appreciates the public’s continued patience and cooperation as this important infrastructure improvement moves toward completion.

Roundabouts have been shown, through data, to improve both traffic flow and safety compared to traditional intersections.

In fact, studies by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and U.S. Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) consistently find that roundabouts can reduce injury crashes by about 75%, and fatal crashes by up to 90%, compared to intersections controlled by stop signs or signals. The reason is simple: roundabouts eliminate the most dangerous types of collisions right-angle (T-bone) and head-on crashes, while naturally slowing vehicles to safer speeds.

In Europe, especially in the UK, France, and the Netherlands, roundabouts are used even in smaller towns to calm traffic and improve efficiency in lower speed zones. In North America, adoption has been slower partly because of driver unfamiliarity and a lingering attachment to four way stops, which, are you often misunderstood. Many drivers don’t understand who has the right of way when two or more vehicles arrive at a four way stop simultaneously. The same confusion often happens when traffic lights are flashing red in all directions due to a power outage or malfunction.

Your local example, Leamington, Kingsville, and Essex County is a good one. Those communities have been gradually introducing roundabouts, and the data from Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation shows they’ve reduced both congestion and collision severity where implemented.

  2. Absolutely Fraser is the worst intersection I have ever seen! I feel sorry for all the residents that have had all these disruptions all over this town. This is the first time there has been this much construction all at once. The town must have tax dollars to burn!

  3. Another waste of money. Just as bad as the wasted efforts at the dock.

No need for a round about. It is not a high way it is a residential area and 60 k is the speed. Why do we spend money when other roads a in need of repairs. I get sewers fixing .

  5. A roundabout IF anywhere would have made more sense at Sherk or Fraser , why here and why not any other subdivision entering the highway ?
