As owners of a Licensed Short-Term Rental Unit (STRU) approach the completion of their initial three-year (3) licensing term, they are required to renew their licence to continue operating their STRU.
The STRU licence renewal process is part of the Town of Essex’s implemented system of zoning regulations and licensing to ensure STRU operators are continuing to follow municipal By-Laws, and that the character of neighbourhoods is maintained.
Key Updates to the STRU Licensing Program By-Law 2468:
- New Licensing Term: The Town has reduced the previous three (3) year licensing term to a one (1) year licensing term.
- Updated Fee: The required annual licensing fee has been set to $500.
- Fire Inspection: This has not changed. Fire Inspections continue to be required every three years. All STRU licence renewals who have not passed a Fire Inspection in the last three years will need to schedule and pass an updated inspection prior to renewal.
