Town Of Essex Launches New Seniors Program

The Town of Essex is pleased to introduce a new initiative designed to enhance the lives of older adults in the community: the Zoomers Essex Active Lunch and Learn (Z.E.A.L.L.) program. The program is made possible through the generous funding from the Province of Ontario Seniors Community Grant Program.

Beginning September 23, 2025, ZEALL will run monthly through March 2026, offering seniors a variety of engaging, educational, and wellness-focused activities. The eight-month program will rotate across the Town’s four community centre – Essex Centre, Harrow Centre, McGregor Centre, and Colchester Centre – ensuring broad accessibility and participation.

ZEALL is built around monthly themed sessions that include:

  • Healthy eating workshops
  • Fitness and wellness activities
  • Creative arts and hands-on projects
  • Technology skill-building
  • Community exploration and local guest speakers

The program aims to promote social inclusion, lifelong learning, and well-being among older adults. By partnering with local professionals and organizations, ZEALL provides a unique opportunity for seniors to engage directly with the community while acquiring new skills and enjoying a fun, social environment.

Funding for this initiative is provided by the Province of Ontario’s Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility through the 2025–2026 Seniors Community Grant Program, which supports projects that help seniors stay safe, active, and connected in their communities.

“This grant from the Province of Ontario allows us to launch a meaningful program that celebrates and supports our senior residents,” said Sherry Bondy, Mayor. “We’re proud to offer a space where seniors can connect, learn, stay active, and build lasting relationships within their community.”

Further program details, including registration and monthly session schedules, is available at www.essex.ca and through local community centres.

I live at Wildwood Golf and RV resort in McGregor and I am very interested in this programme. I broke my femur Aug 15th and still in rehab till Sep.11th. I would need transportation for awhile, do you offer that service?
