SIU Finds Kingsville Officer Used Reasonable Force In April Arrest

In the early morning of April 17, 2025, an OPP officer observed a prohibited driver enter into a parking lot in Kingsville, and decided to arrest him.

The officer approached the driver’s seat and asked the 26-year-old man to step out. The man exited, turned to face the vehicle, and placed his hands on top of the vehicle.

When the officer attempted to bring the man’s arms behind his back, the man broke free of the officer’s hold. A struggle ensued. Additional officers arrived on scene and assisted in taking the man into custody.

At hospital, the man was diagnosed with a severely fractured right ankle.

On his assessment of the evidence, SIU Director Joseph Martino determined there were no reasonable grounds to believe that an officer committed a criminal offence in connection with the man’s arrest and injury.
