The Green Bins Are Coming!
The EWSWA is excited to announce the Green Bins are finally here and starting to roll out!
Single-family homes in Phase 1 municipalities (Essex, Lakeshore, LaSalle, Tecumseh and Windsor) will get a Green Bin delivered to their homes during the months of July – October 2025.
Phase 2 municipalities (Amherstburg, Kingsville and Leamington) will receive their Green Bins in the fall of 2026.
What Should You Do?
If you live in a Phase 1 municipality, in a single-family home, you don’t have to do anything — a Green Bin will be delivered to you.
When you receive your Green Bin, please look inside, remove the Kitchen Catcher and read the information carefully. Collection does not start until October, so you will need to store your Green Bin safely until then.

Gravity Lock
The Green Bin has a gravity lock which is designed to only open when the Green Bin is turned upside down by the automated arm on the collection truck.
Do NOT try to remove the key attached to the gravity lock (it doesn’t remove and it’s part of the lock function!) – Just turn the key to the right to open the Green Bin.
Delivery Schedule
The Essex-Windsor Solid Waste Authority (EWSWA) has 120,000 Green Bins to deliver this summer, so please be patient, yours will be delivered eventually. The delivery schedule for your municipality or zone is located on the EWSWA website: Delivery Schedule Link
Delivery Details
- one to two-week windows depending on zone/municipality
- Monday to Friday (no holidays)
- 7:00 a.m to 7:00 p.m.
- A Green Bin Kit will be linked to your address and left for you
