Leardi Opposes Drug Injection Sites, Advocates For Compassionate Care

MPP Anthony Leardi has taken a public position on drug injection sites.

“I am 100% opposed to locating any drug injection sites in Essex County,” says Anthony Leardi, who is also the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Health.

“We don’t need more drug injection sites, we need less. I don’t want one in Essex County.”

According to the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit, CTS sites (or Consumption and Treatment Services Sites) provide “safe spaces for people to consume pre-obtained drugs under the supervision of medically trained staff.”

“I am opposed to setting this up in Essex County. I am opposed to providing free needles and free supervision for people to consume illegal drugs,” says Anthony Leardi.

“Drugs from these sites are being trafficked and mixed with lethal drugs like fentanyl. We don’t want any of this in Essex County.”

A letter from Premier Ford regarding the drug crisis in British Columbia confirms Leardi’s position on the subject.

Ford stated, “An earlier review conducted by their provincial health officer also indicated that the diversion of controlled substances obtained at these facilities was a common occurrence, including to trade for more lethal and harmful drugs like fentanyl.”

Leardi says, “We don’t need more drugs. We need less drugs. The government has added 400 detox, treatment, and withdrawal management beds in communities across Ontario. People who are addicted need compassionate care and that’s what I will work towards.”

Compassionate care, do you even know what the word means. Have you ever known anyone who has been addicted. Oh yes, why make people who are vulnerable and have an addiction problem safe. The safe injection sites relay information to these vulnerable people and are there to support them to get to a detox, treatment center, you may need to do some research before you comment on things you do not understand. You do not want drugs in Essex County this is what we all want, but throwing these persons to the dogs does not help

This is a statement of an uninformed person.

It is true that we do not need and should never promote drug use. It is far more wise to promote councilling and withdrawal services instead of babysitting and pandering to their addictions.
