(ESSEX, ON) – Essex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is encouraging the public to download the What3Words application on their mobile device. The app has already assisted in other areas of the Province. Recently it brought an incident in Lambton County to a safe conclusion.
What3Words helps people in need when a caller cannot describe or does not know where they are located. Through its global mapping system, the app labels every three squared metres with a unique three word location string that can be converted into latitude and longitude coordinates, making it easy for the police to locate people in distress and the app can save valuable time and save lives!
The What3Words application is available for Apple and Android devices for free on the app store and, if downloaded prior to your excursion, it does not use cellular data when operating.
A brief video explaining the use of the application can be found on Facebook @OPPWEST.
