Fishfly Season: Residents Reminded to Refrain from Dimming Streetlights

Fishfly season is here. The Town of Kingsville understands fishflies (also referred to as mayflies and shadflies) can be a nuisance. But they’re an essential part of our ecosystem, they do not pose a public threat, and the season is short.

Please be patient with cleaning efforts and avoid turning off streetlights, which are critical from a safety perspective.

The Town enhances cleaning measures during fishfly season, following its Fishfly Abatement Policy, but timing these processes is difficult to predict.

Enhanced street sweeping is currently underway. Specific trouble areas, particularly around the lake, have been identified as focus areas. Drivers should be cautious when navigating roads where the bugs have settled.

Residents can email requests@kingsville.ca to report additional trouble spots.

Is it possible to dim the crosswalk lights on Jasperson. They shine all night, even when no one is crossing.
