The Windsor/Essex County Humane Society is proud to share the success of its annual Strays on Streetcorners campaign, held June 19 to 21 throughout Windsor and Essex County. This year’s event raised just over $78,000, surpassing its goal and reinforcing the region’s reputation for compassion and community spirit.
“We are humbled and thrilled to announce that our community once again showed up in a big way for the animals,” said Lynnette Bain, Executive Director of the Windsor/Essex County Humane Society.
“Thanks to the compassion and generosity of Windsor-Essex residents, we exceeded our goal and raised $78,003 during this year’s Strays on Streetcorners campaign. Our heartfelt thanks go to every donor and to our tireless volunteers who braved the heat and rain to make this possible. These funds will help us continue providing care and hope to the most vulnerable animals in our region.”
One of those volunteers, Ashlee Cousineau, knows the importance of showing up.
“I’ve been doing it for a few years now—I even did it when I was 9 months pregnant with my third child!” said Cousineau. “I like to do it because I want to help the animals. Specifically, cats, because I’m a cat lover, and I know how large colonies can grow without proper care. It just makes me feel good to see the community step up and actually help a needed cause.”
Strays on Streetcorners relies on the dedication of volunteers like Ashlee, who take to busy intersections across the region to collect donations and raise awareness. This year’s event brought volunteers face-to-face with both heat and heavy rain—but spirits never wavered.
The funds raised will go directly toward food, shelter, medical care, and adoption services for animals throughout Windsor and Essex County.
