This year was unique for our annual Blessing of the Bikes. The weather forecast was correct this year! We indeed had a soggy, rainy day. That of course, did not dampen the spirit of the event. We, First Ev Lutheran Church – Kingsville, partner with Hogs for Hospice Leamington each year to kick off the riding season with a blessing for the riders.
Blessing of the Bikes is also about community awareness of safety on the roadways. We encourage all drivers to be aware of motorcycles as they travel this summer.
We began with a worship service at 10:30am, led by Pastor Bryan Schindel from Ypsilanti Michigan. Deacon Brian Perkins, chaplain for their Christian Motorcycle Association assisted. At 11:30am we headed outside for the Blessing Service. Between raindrops and under tents riders received a blessing and prayer and then we headed inside to enjoy lunch.
It is a privilege to host this event, and we thank Hogs for Hospice for all they do to support the day. We also thank Pastor Dave Bretzlaff who helps with the blessing every year, and Dave Epp and Dennis Rogers for welcoming the riders to our community.
Tim Dyck (Youth for Christ – Kingsville) helped and shared a bit about his ministry with local youth. Many volunteers and all these partners make the day a joyful one … no matter the weather!
First Ev Lutheran Church loves our community and loves to serve others. Maybe the sun will be shining next year, maybe not, but we know that we will be ready to welcome our community and local riders May 3, 2026.
