Harvey Ryersee

74 years, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 16, 2025, at WRH – Ouellette Campus.

Beloved husband of Colleen Ryersee. Loving father of Tyler Ryersee (Hailey Broadwell) and Deanna Ryersee. Cherished grandfather of Benjamin and Maven Ryersee and Leeland Miller. Dear son of the late Lee Ryersee and Joyce Ryersee (nee Hooper). Brother of Stanley Ryersee (late Pam Keys) and Jill (Terry) Hamill. Harvey will be fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews and friends.

Harvey sailed as Captain on the Pelee Islander and Jiimaan ferry for 41 years until his retirement. Known for his stoic and esteemed position as captain, Harvey was also a loving father, partner and friend to all in his community.

He was an active member and dedicated his time to help others in so many ways remaining entirely selfless in his efforts. He was a member of the Pelee sportsmens club where he helped establish events and club activities to benefit the Island, and cutting wood in the winter months to help others when he didn’t even require or charge for his services.

While not working, Harvey enjoyed spending time with his family and outdoor activities like hunting and fishing, he also enjoyed sharing many humorous stories with his peers and was always quick with a timely, creative and impressive one liner.

He was a giving and honourable man and a well renowned story teller to all who had the pleasure of knowing him and his way of mentoring and impact he had on lives will remain unforgettable.

He faced many challenges near the end, but weathered every storm and was appreciated and loved by all.
