On Wednesday, May 28, Habitat for Humanity Windsor-Essex held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at 7:00 PM at the historic Mackenzie Hall in Sandwich Town.
The event brought together community members, partners, and supporters to reflect on the successes of the past year and to share exciting plans for the year ahead.
This year’s AGM was especially meaningful, as it featured a key ceremony welcoming Kashindi, Adolphine, and their six children into their new Habitat home—just down the street from the evening’s gathering.
Their home marks the completion of the fifth and final home in Sandwich Town, representing a significant milestone in Habitat’s commitment to revitalization and community development in the historic neighbourhood.
“The Annual General Meeting is a time to celebrate all that our volunteers, donors, and community partners have made possible,” said Justin Fox, Board Chair of Habitat for Humanity Windsor-Essex.
“To pair that celebration with handing over the keys to a family of eight is a powerful reminder of why we do this work.”
In addition to the moving dedication ceremony, the AGM spotlighted Habitat’s expanded repair programs, youth engagement initiatives, and plans to increase access to affordable homeownership through new builds and strategic partnerships in the coming year.
With no remaining property currently available in the City of Windsor, Habitat for Humanity Windsor-Essex is urgently seeking opportunities to acquire vacant and underutilized lots.
“We are eager to work with municipal leaders, landowners, and community members to transform abandoned or overlooked properties into thriving homes,” said Fiona Coughlin, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Windsor-Essex. “Revitalizing neighbourhoods and tackling the housing crisis go hand in hand—and we’re ready to build.”
To date, Habitat for Humanity Windsor-Essex has built, repaired, or renovated more than 130 homes across the region.
As the housing crisis continues to challenge families throughout Windsor and Essex County, Habitat remains focused on building strength, stability, and self-reliance through affordable homeownership.
